The $10 Liberty Gold Eagle holds a special place in U.S. coin history. Minted from 1838 until 1907, this coin design is the longest-running one in American currency history. Many of these coins were melted down in federal programs in the 1930s, making well-preserved examples rare and highly valued by collectors. Now, Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins in certified condition are available online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
These Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins are graded Mint State 64+. The MS64+ grade indicates coins with attractive features that stand out, even among other MS64-graded coins. You may notice a nice mint luster, small contact marks, and possibly minor hairlines, all contributing to a quality appearance.
Obverse
The obverse of the Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Coin displays Lady Liberty in profile. Christian Gobrecht created this classic design in 1838, showing Liberty facing left with a coronet crown inscribed “LIBERTY” on her head. Thirteen stars surround her image, along with the year the coin was minted.
Reverse
On the reverse of the $10 Liberty Eagle, youll find the image of the heraldic eagle. This early national emblem features the eagle in a forward-facing position, looking to the right (coin left) with the U.S. shield over its chest, arrows of war in one talon, and an olive branch of peace in the other. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, TEN D., and IN GOD WE TRUST (Type II only).
History
There was only one minor design change in the history of the $10 Liberty Gold Eagle. The Type I version, produced from 1838 to early 1866, did not include the national motto “IN GOD WE TRUST.” In late 1866, a banner with the motto was added to the coin above the eagle.
