The $10 Eagle denomination was the basis for a long-running currency in the United States that represented some of the earliest coins from the United States of America. The Eagle was the main denomination and the three other denominations in this series were named based on relative face value to the Eagle. For example, the Half Eagle was $5 (USD) while the Double Eagle was $20 (USD). Provident Metals is happy to offer the Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin to you online with PCGS certification.

Obverse

The obverse side of the Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins comes with a depiction of Lady Liberty. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the design was used on all denominations of the US Eagle gold coins starting in 1838. It shows Liberty wearing the coronet crown with Liberty inscribed on the coronet. The bust of Liberty is shown with a circle of 13 stars around the edge of the coin field.

Reverse

On the reverse face of Pre-33 $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins is an image of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This depiction of the eagle shows the bird ready for flight with the US national shield on its chest, arrows in one talon, and an olive branch in the other. Coins dated 1838 to 1866 have only United States of America and Ten D. inscribed on this side, while coins dated late 1866 to 1907 have In God We Trust as well.

History

The Liberty Coronet design was the longest-running design in the series. It featured on the three original denominations of the US Eagle until 1907, spanning nearly 70 years of issue of the coins. It was also used on the Double Eagle Gold Coin from its 1849 introduction until 1907 when the Saint-Gaudens design replaced the Liberty Coronet.
