The Double Eagle Gold Coin from the United States Mint was the fourth and final denomination in the US Eagle Series to enter circulation. While the original Quarter Eagle, Half Eagle, and Eagle debuted between 1792 and 1795, the Double Eagle wasnt issued until 1849. Available through 1933, the Double Eagle was predominantly used in international commercial transactions, but remains a popular denomination for the both of the designs used during its lifetime. Right now, you can buy certified Pre-33 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coins online at Provident Metals.

Obverse
Known as the Coronet Head, the Liberty bust on the obverse of the Pre-33 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin is one of the most famous in American coining history. Designed in 1849 by James B. Longacre, then the 4th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint, the image depicts Liberty in left-profile relief with a ring of 13 stars around the portrait and a date mark at the bottom.
Reverse
The heraldic eagle of the United States is featured on the reverse of Pre-33 $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coins. The ornate design of the eagle features a large US shield on its chest, arrows of war in one talon, and the olive branch of peace in the other. United States of America is a constant inscription on all date marks. Coins issued from 1866-1907 have the motto In God We Trust included. Coins issued from 1877 to 1907 also have the face value listed as Twenty Dollars rather than the previous Twenty D.
History
The Coronet Head design was the longest-running image on the coins of the US Eagle gold series. It featured on the Quarter Eagle, Half Eagle, and Eagle starting in the 1830s and these Double Eagles from 1849.
