There is little doubt that the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle coin design from 1907 is Americas most coveted. When it was introduced in the early 20th century, it was viewed as a much-needed modernization of American coin designs. Provident Metals now has Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coins available to you in certified condition for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of these Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coins, you will receive a specimen that is in MS64 condition. Coins at this grade level have average mint luster, several small contact marks, one or two modern contact marks, and the potential for one or two small patches of hairlines.
Obverse
The obverse side of the Pre-33 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin comes with a depiction of Lady Liberty. This front-facing relief shows Liberty with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the left. The field includes a ring of 50 stars, the U.S. Capitol Building, and inscriptions of LIBERTY and the specific date.
Reverse
On the reverse side of Pre-33 $20 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles is an image of the American bald eagle. In this design, the eagle is shown in left-profile relief as it soars above the rising sun on the edge of the field. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, TWENTY DOLLARS, and IN GOD WE TRUST.
History
Most Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coins issued after World War I wound up in Europe, largely through international trade. Few specimens ever returned to the United States in Mint State conditions, and most of those that never left the US in the first place were melted down in the 1930s.
