Coins in this condition will have an average luster, but they may have several contact marks, including one or two moderately heavy marks. Light scuff marks or defects may also be seen in the design field.

Obverse

On the obverse face of each of these coins, you will find the image of a Native American wearing a traditional warrior headdress full of feathers. The Indian is encircled by thirteen stars with the date printed near the bottom of the coin, while Liberty is written below. The mintage year is also featured on the obverse of each coin.

Reverse

The reverse side of the coin showcases the American Bald Eagle, the national bird of the United States. The bald eagle stands on a bundle of arrows tied together with an olive branch symbolizing peace. You can also find the face value on the reverse face of these coins.

History

The Indian Gold Quarter Eagle coins have a unique recessed design. Most other coins have a raised design, but the details on these coins are actually carved into the coin itself. The Indian Head Gold Quarter Eagle Coins are so popular due in part to the fact that they are the only remaining United States Mint currency coins that have a recessed design.
