The Indian Half Eagle Gold Coin was designed by Bela Lyon Pratt and was introduced in 1908 as the final design in the Half Eagle Gold denomination. A $5 (USD) gold coin, the Half Eagle was available from 1795 to 1929, with the Indian Half Eagle design minted for a relatively short period of time. Today, you have the opportunity to purchase Pre-33 $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coins with certification online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
The most remarkable feature of the $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coins from the United States Mint is the inclusion of an incuse design strike. The Half Eagle and Quarter Eagle coins were, and remain, the only American coins struck for circulation with incuse design elements. Rather than engraving designs in 3D relief onto the surface of a coin, an incuse strike involves sinking the design elements into the surface of the coin.
Obverse
On the obverse side of the Pre-33 $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coin is an image of a Native American figure. This indigenous figure wears a feathered headdress and is surrounded by 13 stars. There are also inscriptions of Liberty and a date mark on this side.
Reverse
The reverse field of Pre-33 $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coins includes a depiction of the American bald eagle at rest. The bird is shown on a sheaf of arrows wrapped in an olive branch. The inscriptions on this side include United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, In God We Trust, and Five Dollars.
History
Indian Half Eagle coins were produced by the United States Mint from 1908 until the start of World War I. Many smaller denominations of gold were not produced during the war, and in the case of the Half Eagle, the coin did not return after the war until 1929. This was the final year in which the US Mint issued the Indian Half Eagle.
Ordering
These Pre-33 $5 Indian Half Eagle Gold Coins have Mint State 62 certifications. Coins in this condition have impaired to dull mint luster, clusters of small marks present throughout the coins surface and a few large marks or other flaws possible in the primary focal areas.
Please keep in mind the date mark on the coin you receive will be random, as will the specific grading house label. If you purchase multiples, please note that you could receive matching specimens.
