The Liberty Half Eagle was one of the most popular gold coins available from the United States Mint. The series was in production from 1795 to 1929 or 1933, depending on the denomination. The most common design remaining from the 19th century in this series is the Liberty Head design that graced the US Eagle, Half Eagle, and Quarter Eagle from 1838 to the mid-1900s. Provident Metals now has Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle 4-Coin Gold Sets from pre-1900 available to you for purchase online.
When you purchase a Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle 4-Coin Set in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a total of four individual Liberty Half Eagles with different date marks on each coin. All coins will have date marks from before 1900 ranging from 1838 to 1899. Each one of the coins comes in a protective plastic flip. This set does not have any matching date marks. The coins will be in Extremely Fine condition and showcase only light wear on the high points with some traces of the mint luster present.
The obverse side of the Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin shows an effigy of Lady Liberty. Known as the Liberty Head design, it was created by Christian Gobrecht in 1838 to replace the Classic Head Liberty design and featured on the coins through early 1908. The field includes Liberty wearing a coronet with 13 stars around her figure and a date mark below.
On the reverse field of Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins is a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The design includes a front-facing bald eagle with the US national shield on its chest, the arrows of war, and the olive branch of peace. From 1838 to 1865, this remained unchanged. In 1866, a banner with In God We Trust was added to the coins.
The Pre-33 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin is a unique specimen in the US Eagle Series. Specimens from the Charlotte Mint and Dahlonega Mint used gold sourced from deposits along the East Coast from the Carolinas down to Georgia. This gold had naturally higher levels of silver content, resulting in what has been termed green gold coloration for the coins.
