All coins in this listing are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, an impressive feature given the age of the coins. Date marks for the specific Liberty Half Eagle design range from 1839 to 1908.

Please remember that we do not guarantee the date mark on the coin you receive. All items are chosen once your payment has been processed, so we are not able to accommodate requests for a particular date. If you buy multiples, it is possible to receive coins that all have the same date and reverse design version.

Obverse

The obverse side of Pre-33 $1 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins includes a left-profile bust of Liberty. She is featured wearing the coronet with Liberty inscribed on it on her head. Her hair is held up in a loose bun at the back of her head with 13 stars around the bust and a date mark at the bottom-center of the coin.

Reverse

On the reverse face of all Pre-33 $1 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins, you will find the heraldic eagle. This image of the American bald eagle in front-facing relief includes a US shield on the birds chest with an olive branch and the arrows of war in its talons. Coins struck from 1839 to 1866 have United States of America and Five D. inscribed. Coins issued from late 1866 to 1908 have the additional banner with In God We Trust inscribed.

History

The Liberty Half Eagle was one of the more unique entries in the US Eagle gold coin series. It is the only design and denomination to have been issued by all seven US Mint branch facilities open during its 70-year run: Philadelphia, Dahlonega, Charlotte, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carson City, and Denver. Another unique note to this denomination in the series comes in the gold ore. The southern branch facilities at Dahlonega and Charlotte had higher silver content in the gold ore, resulting in a so-called green-gold appearance to the coins.
