There is only one coin available from the United States Mint on an annual basis with the level of gold purity found in other programs such as the Canadian Maple Leaf or Australian Kangaroo. The American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coin debuted in 2006 as the first-ever 24-karat gold coin from the US Mint. Available annually in two versions, the Proof American Buffalo has much lower mintages each year and impressive visual brilliance. Today, you can get the Proof American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coin in near-perfect condition online at Provident Metals.
A random year, varied label listing from Provident Metals leaves it to our discretion to select your coins once your payment is processed. We do not guarantee a particular date mark when you purchase a coin, nor can we guarantee whether you get a coin with a PF69 grade from the NGC or a PR69 grade from the PCGS. If you purchase multiples, please remember you could receive several coins with the same date marks, grading house labels, and even additional labels such as DCAM, UCAM, and Early Release. Coins arrive in a protective plastic slab from either the NGC or the PCGS.
On the obverse face of the Proof American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coin, you will find the right-profile portrait of a stoic Native American figure. This design includes a date mark at the bottom of the bust and the word Liberty on the right edge of the design element.
The reverse side of Proof American Buffalo 1 oz Gold Coins is a depiction of the American bison. This design uses Black Diamond as the inspiration for the buffalo standing on the dirt mount. Designer James Earle Fraser used Black Diamond, a resident bison at the Central Park Zoo in New York City in the early 20th century as a guide for his design.
American Buffalo Gold coins are inspired by the design James Earle Fraser created for the Buffalo Nickel. The Buffalo Nickel was available in the United States from 1913 to 1938. The design was authorized by the administration of President William Howard Taft in 1913. When the American Buffalo Gold Coin was introduced, it marked the start of 24-karat gold coining in the United States.
