Created in 1907, this design offers a front-facing portrait of Liberty in a free-flowing robe with a large torch held above her head in her right hand, an olive branch in her left hand, and the rays of the sun emerging from behind her figure. 50 stars around her figure represent each of the 50 United States.

Reverse

The reverse of Proof American Eagle 1/4 oz Gold Coins bears a unique design created in 1986 by Miley Busiek that is used only on the Proof American Eagle Gold Coins. It depicts a male eagle in flight over the nest as a female uses her wing to shield a young hatchling within the nest.
