Obverse
On the obverse field of the Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin is an image of Lady Liberty. This front-facing design was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and submitted to the US Mint for consideration on various US circulation coins of the early 20th century. It featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle from 1907 to 1933. The design depicts Liberty with a torch held out in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
Reverse
The reverse face of Proof American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins bears the design of a family of American bald eagles. Created in 1986 by Miley Busiek, this image includes a male eagle in flight over the nest as a female is perched in the nest with a hatchling.
History
