DCAM designations refer to the deep-cameo appearance with strong, frosted design elements and deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.

Obverse

On the obverse of all Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Platinum Coins is the image of the Statue of Liberty. This design appears on the Proof American Eagle Platinum Coins from 1997 to 2017 and is still in use on the bullion versions. It was designed in 1997 by John Mercanti.

Reverse

The reverse side of Proof American Eagle 1/10 oz Platinum Coins includes varying images of the American bald eagle. The 1997 coin has the Thomas D. Rogers design of an American bald eagle flying over the nation as it appears still on the bullion coin. Designs from 1998 to 2002 depict the American eagle in flight over different regions of the country, while other issues between 2003 and 2008 feature different images of the eagle and other symbols of the American government.

History

Both the bullion and proof versions of American Eagle Platinum Coins had fractional-ounce weights available from 1997 to 2008. All three fractional-ounce options, including these 1/10 oz coins, were suspended starting in 2009 and have not returned to the lineup.
