The Chinese Panda Gold Coins debuted in 1982 from the Chinese Mint, making it the third-oldest bullion coin series available to investors behind the 1967 release of the South African Krugerrand Gold Coin and the 1979 debut of the Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coin. The Chinese Panda debuted with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins in 1982 and gained a 1/20 oz gold coin in 1983.

On the obverse face of the Proof Chinese Panda 100 Gram Gold Coin is a depiction of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. This shot of the exterior of the building focuses on the main great hall in the temple and this design has been used on the obverse of the Chinese Panda Gold Coin every year since 1982. Inscriptions include the nation of issue Peoples Republic of China in Mandarin text with a date mark in Arabic numerals.

The reverse side of Proof Chinese Panda Gold Coins includes the image of the Giant Panda. This unique species of bear is native to the central highlands of China and is considered an unofficial emblem of the nation. The reverse side of the coins has a new image of the Giant Panda each year, making the bullion coins a collectible piece as well with these new designs. The face value, weight, metal content, and purity are inscribed on this face as 1,500 with the Yuan symbol and 100 g .999 Au.

In 2016, the Chinese Mint shifted its Chinese Panda Gold Coins and Chinese Panda Silver Coins from Troy oz weights to Grams as the official unit of weight for the coins. The 1 oz coins in the gold and silver series became 30 Gram coins, with the fractional-ounce gold coins shifting to 15 Gram, 8 Gram, 3 Gram, and 1 Gram coins instead of the previous 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins.

These Proof Chinese Panda 100 Gram Gold Coins come with a wooden display box and Certificate of Authenticity. Provident Metals offers these specimens from random years.
