Obverse

The obverse design of Proof Morgan Dollar Coins was created by George T. Morgan and shows Lady Liberty in a left-facing profile. History

Morgan Dollars were produced in large numbers throughout the late 19th century, particularly after the Sherman Silver Purchase Act of 1890 increased federal silver purchases. When the act was repealed just three years later, production slowed considerably. As the demand for silver dollars faded, mintages became inconsistent, and by the early 1900s only limited issues were struck at select mints through 1904.
