Only up to two small imperfections are permitted, and they must not appear in major focal areas. These minor flaws may include light contact marks or faint hairlines. Obverse
On the obverse of Proof Morgan Dollar Coins, Lady Liberty appears in a left-facing profile created by engraver George T. Morgan. She wears a Phrygian cap accented with cotton and wheat, representing the countrys agricultural heritage. The design reflects classical influences while maintaining a distinctly American character. The inscriptions here include E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and the year of issue.
Reverse
The reverse design of Proof Morgan Dollar Silver Coins showcases a heraldic eagle with wings extended. The eagle grasps arrows and an olive branch, representing readiness and peace. Surrounding the eagle is a partial wreath of cotton and wheat, mirroring the obverse imagery. This balanced design has helped make the Morgan Dollar one of the most recognizable US coins. History
Morgan Silver Dollars were first issued in 1878 after Congress passed the Bland-Allison Act. This legislation required the federal government to purchase millions of dollars worth of silver each month and strike it into coinage. The act was approved over a presidential veto and served as a compromise between those advocating unlimited silver coinage and supporters of the gold standard. The Morgan Dollar would go on to become a lasting symbol of American coinage.
