Obverse
The obverse of Proof Morgan Dollar Coins features a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty designed by George T. Morgan. Liberty wears a Phrygian cap accented with cotton and wheat, symbols representing American agriculture. The portrait reflects classical artistic influences and gives the coin a balanced and traditional look. The inscriptions here read E PLURIBUS UNUM, LIBERTY, and the year of issue.
Reverse

History
The Morgan Silver Dollar was first issued in 1878, replacing the earlier Seated Liberty Dollar series. Production occurred at several US Mint facilities, including Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Carson City, with the Philadelphia Mint striking the earliest examples. Although the design initially faced some criticism, it quickly gained acceptance and went on to become one of the most recognized and widely collected US silver dollars.
