Obverse
On the obverse of Proof Krugerrand 1/4 oz Gold Coins, you will find an effigy of Paul Kruger. This design was created in the 1890s for the gold coins of the South African Pound and captures Kruger in left-profile relief. Inscriptions on this side read SUID AFRIKA and SOUTH AFRICA.
Reverse
The reverse field of the Proof South African Krugerrand Gold Coin comes with an image of a Springbok antelope. The design has featured on South African coins since at least the 1930s. Krugerrand coins were introduced in 1967 by the South African Mint and the Rand Refinery. The coins are named for the current fiat currency of South Africa, the Rand, and the former president featured on the obverse, Paul Kruger.
