This emblem is based on the 1524 Codex Mendoza and features a golden eagle eating a snake while standing atop a cactus. Around this central design are 10 historic coats of arms from Mexicos past, including the earliest one from the Codex Mendoza. The inscriptions include ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.
Reverse
On the reverse of Reverse Proof Libertad 1 oz Gold Coins, the coin features the statue of Winged Victory. This iconic figure, standing atop the Independence Victory Column in Mexico City, is inspired by Nike, the goddess of victory. Shes shown with one hand outstretched and the other holding broken chains, with the mountains Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl rising in the distance. Inscriptions here include 1 ONZA, ORO PURO, LEY .999, the Mo mint mark, and the date.
History
Reverse Proof Mexican Gold Libertads debuted in 2018 in limited sizes for collectors. Among the 1 oz coins, the 2022 release had the highest mintage at 1,300 pieces, while the 2020 edition had just 250 coins, making it the rarest so far.
