The 2020 America the Beautiful Coins at Provident Metals

2020 marks the 11th year in the America the Beautiful 5 oz Silver Coin series from the United States Mint. Launched in 2010, the series is inspired by the circulation State Quarters program the US Mint debuted in the late 1990s. In the ATB Series, you will find one unique design representing 56 different jurisdictions in the United States to include all 50 states, the nation’s five overseas territories, and the federal district of Washington D.C. As the ATB Series enters 2020, it marks the final time in the program’s schedule that five designs will be released as images number 51 through 55 debut.

The 2020 ATB Coins

To date, each year in the America the Beautiful 5 oz Silver Coin collection has featured five distinctive designs. With just six designs to go entering 2020, this is the last year you will find a full release schedule available as 2021 will feature only one new coin design. Available in 2020 are five designs representing three US states and two overseas territories of the United States: American Samoa and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The scheduled designs for the 2020 ATB 5 oz Silver Coins include one National Park, one National Preserve, one National Historical Park, one National Historic Site, and one National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve. The scheduled releases in this series start with the American Samoa coin expected in February 2020 and include the Connecticut coin in April 2020, the U.S. Virgin Islands coin in June 2020, the Vermont coin in August 2020, and the Kansas coin in November 2020.

2020 ATB Designs

First up in the 2020 ATB 5 oz Silver Coin series is the American Samoa coin. This release focuses on the National Park of American Samoa:

  • The reverse of the 2020 ATB National Park of American Samoa coin includes the image of a Samoa fly fox mother hanging upside down as it cuddles its young pup. These bats are native to American Samoa, the Cook Islands, and Fiji and are found in tropical and subtropical forests.

When the Connecticut coin debuts in April, it will feature imagery from the Weir Farm National Historical in Ridgefield and Wilton, Connecticut:

  • One of two National Park Service locations devoted to visual arts, the reverse of the 2020 ATB Weir Farm National Historic Site coin features the image of an artist with an easel painting outside of Weir Farm and drawing inspiration from the surrounding natural beauty.

For the third release in the 2020 ATB 5 oz Silver series, the final overseas territory of the United States is featured with a design capturing the natural beauty of the U.S. Virgin Islands:

  • Some of the many young red mangrove trees found in the U.S. Virgin Islands are featured in the reverse design of the 2020 ATB Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve coin. The park is located on the island of St. Croix in the USVI and includes within it the National Historic Landmark at the Columbus Landing Site, the only known place in what is now the United States where members of the Columbus expedition actually set foot.

Heading back stateside for the final two designs of 2020, the design of the Vermont coin focuses on the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park:

  • In the reverse design of the 2020 ATB Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park coin, you will see the image of a young girl ensuring the continued beauty of the land by planting a Norway Spruce sapling. The park is located in Woodstock, Vermont, and preserves a site where Frederick Billings established and managed both a forest and a dairy farm.

For the final design of the 2020 ATB 5 oz Silver Coin series, the simple splendor of the American prairies in the Midwest feature in the design for Kansas:

  • On the reverse of the 2020 ATB Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve coin is the depiction of a Regal fritillary amongst the tall grasses of the National Preserve. The preserve is located throughout the Flint Hills region of Kansas and protects much of the remaining tallgrass prairie ecosystem that remains in the United States. Such ecosystems once covered 400,000 square miles of the North American continent, but now cover just 4% of that space. Most of it is located in the Flint Hills region.

2020 ATB Options

As with the previous releases of the series, the 2020 ATB 5 oz Silver Coins from the United States Mint will be available in two different versions. The bullion version is expected, as always, to have a higher mintage figure, though both coins are generally struck to meet the demand of investors and collectors without fixed mintage caps. The bullion coins ship individually in plastic capsules, in multiples of 10 housed in mint tubes, or in multiples of 100 housed in Monster Boxes with 10 tubes of 10 coins each.

The Burnished ATB 5 oz Silver Coins will also be available. The burnished coins have a matte finish in comparison to the bullion coins and are packaged individually. Each Burnished ATB 5 oz Silver Coin is housed inside of a US Mint presentation case with a Certificate of Authenticity available as well. The Burnished ATB 5 oz Silver coins come from the Philadelphia Mint and feature a “P” mint mark.
