Each of these avoirdupois oz copper rounds contains .999 fine copper bullion and measures 27 mm across in diameter.
The original Standing Liberty quarter design was created to replace the Barber quarter. The coin features the goddess of Liberty on the obverse and an eagle on the reverse, designed by sculptor Hermon Atkins MacNeil. The militaristic design went through several iterations, including one with dolphins representing the oceans and unapproved changes to MacNeil’s designs by Mint employees, before the final image was determined.
These ounce copper rounds honor that image. The obverse features Standing Liberty, in her original bare-breasted design, striding through a gate labeled “In God We Trust” while carrying an olive branch and shield. Thirteen 5-pointed stars adorn the gate. The word “LIBERTY” arches behind her.
The reverse includes the eagle from the Great Seal of the United States, a shield in the fore and arrows and an olive branch borne in its claws. A banner in its beak reads “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and 13 6-pointed stars rain down from a decorative arch. The top near the rim says “GOLDEN STATE MINT.” The left rim of the coin reads “1/4 OUNCE .999” and the right reads “FINE COPPER.”
