About This Item
In 1892, the US Mint began producing commemorative coins to honor notable people and events throughout the country’s history. The first of these coins celebrated the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ voyage across the Atlantic.
The mint continued producing countless commemorative coins over the next 62 years, including the 1900 Lafayette Silver Dollar. Starting in 1954, production of these coins ceased until 1982, when the George Washington Fifty Cent Piece was released to celebrate the 250th birthday of the nation’s first president. Additional designs include the Statue of Liberty, USO, the Olympics, Abraham Lincoln, and more.
These US commemorative coins are deemed legal tender, though they were not produced for general circulation. Sales of these coins helps fund a plethora of public projects.
The dates and designs of these coins will be randomized and may or may not include a variety. However, each coin will be in uncirculated or proof condition and will ship in the original mint-issued plastic capsule.
