A tribute to the Buffalo Nickel minted from 1913-1938, this 2001 American Buffalo Set includes two beautiful coins: the 2001-P American Buffalo Commemorative Silver Dollar and the 2001-D Uncirculated American Buffalo Commemorative Silver Dollar.
Each silver dollar has a diameter of 38.1 mm and a weight of 26 grams. The set arrives in its original United States Mint packaging complete with a Certificate of Authenticity.
These coin designs are modeled after the original Buffalo Nickel. The obverse features the portrait of an Indian chief, with the word LIBERTY and the year 2001.
The reverse features a single American buffalo grazing in a pasture. The phrases UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE DOLLAR can be seen engraved, both above and below the buffalo.
Originally minted in 1913, the Buffalo Nickel was produced until 1938. Designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser, who was commissioned by the Taft administration to create the coin’s obverse and reverse, the work was praised for its American colloquialism and originality.
