The British Britannia bullion coin series is one of the most popular in the world. Introduced in 1987 with only gold bullion options, the series expanded a decade later with the 1997 debut of silver coins. The most prominent option in the silver series is the 1 oz silver coin. The modern version features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III on the obverse and the iconic depiction of Britannia.
As mentioned above, His Majesty King Charles III now graces the obverse of British Britannia Silver Coins. The first-generation portrait of His Majesty was created in late 2022 by Martin Jennings and debuted in this series in mid-2023. The reverse of the coins continues to feature Philip Nathan’s 1987 depiction of Britannia. The modern design casts Britannia in a powerful light as the defender of the British Isles and a symbol of Britain’s rich naval history.
The Royal Mint offers the 1 oz silver coin in the Britannia Series with plastic flips for individual coins. Multiples come in Monster Boxes of 500 coins, with a total of 20 tubes inside that contain 25 coins each. You can purchase the tubes individually when buying multiples of 25 or you can purchase an entire Monster box of 500 coins.
British Britannias are among the most secure forms of silver bullion in the world. The Royal Mint’s recently introduced security measures for the coin include four elements on the reverse. The background field has motion waves created by texture lines and there is a latent security element that changes its visual from a locked padlock to a trident head depending on the viewing angle. The Union Jack flag features tincture lines and there is a micro-text engraving around the figure of Britannia.
