Learn more about the Predator Series of Silver Coins

2016 Cougar

The first release in this series came in 2016 with the Cougar. This coin features the striking image of a cougar in left-profile relief, appearing to strike its unsuspecting prey. The design was created by Emily Damstra, one of the more well-known names in the world of coins. This coin has the largest mintage of any coin in the collection with a total mintage of 1,000,000.

Cougars are the fourth largest cat in the world, however, they are the largest wild cat in Canada. They are also referred to as mountain lions and pumas among other names.

2017 Lynx

The second release came the following year and featured the Lynx. The mintage for this coin was cut in half to 500,000. This unique image showcases the Lynx in right-profile relief preparing to attack its prey.

The Lynx can be found in parts of North America, Europe, and Asia. However, this predator, which is twice the size of a house cat, has natural snowshoes for feet. This makes them perfect for the cold conditions of Canada.

2018 Wolf

For the third issue in the overarching series, the RCM turned its attention to the Wolf. This coin features the lowest mintage for any coin in the series at just 300,000. This is also the only coin in the series that wasn’t designed by Emily Damstra. Nathalie Lagace created the stunning image of a wolf running in left-profile relief.

2019 Grizzly

The final release in the series focuses on maybe the most terrifying of the four predators, the grizzly bear. This coin is reminiscent of the Lynx in that it has a mintage of 500,000. Emily Damstra also returned to create the design for this issue.

The design features the grizzly bear leaping at its prey in left-profile relief. The bear is seen with its mouth open wide, ready to attack.
