This coin program debuted in 2010 when it was originally the Fiji Taku series. Niue started to issue these coins in 2014, showcasing the Hawksbill turtle, also known as the Taku. Similar to most Niue Silver Coins, these coins are struck by the New Zealand Mint.
Coins are produced in several sizes such as 1/2 oz, 1 oz, 2 oz, and 5 oz silver bullion options. From 2010 to 2012 these coins showed the Hawksbill turtle on the reverse and Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. In 2013, the obverse was changed to the Fijian crest. Since 2014, the reigning British monarch has appeared on the obverse with 2024 being the first time King Charles III appeared.
One of the more recent series from Niue in collaboration with the New Zealand Mint is the COMIX series. This coin program showcases some of the most iconic comic books ever created, on a comic book-shaped coin. These coins are available in multiple sizes (1 oz, 2 oz) and are colored on all four sides to mimic the spine and pages of a real comic. Each release is also a proof strike. These coins arrive in themed presentation boxes from the New Zealand Mint, and each includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
