This 1 troy oz .9995 fine platinum bullion coin is a continuation of the Royal Canadian Mint’s Maple Leaf coins, which were originally issued from 1988 through 2002 before reappearing in 2009 by popular demand.
An image of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt is the focal point of the obverse. Its value of $50 dollars and the issuing year of 2013 reside beneath the Queen. The Maple Leaf series was initially introduced in 1988 with an obverse of Queen Elizabeth II at 39 years old. The same image appeared again in 1989 before a portrait of the Queen at 64 years was featured from 1990-2002. When the coin was reintroduced in 2009, the current engraving of Queen Elizabeth II at 79 years old was showcased.
