Superman first appeared in Action Comics #1, drawn by Canadian artist Joe Shuster and written by American writer Jerry Siegel. The stunning gold coin features art from Superman #1, published in 1939, including Shuster’s original design in full color. The background of the coin’s reverse features the Fortress of Solitude engraved in gold. The word SUPERMAN is written in classic Golden Age comics style, while the rim bears the words CANADA and 75 DOLLARS 2013, as well as the phrase “75 Years of Superman” written in French and English and spelled out in Superman’s native Kryptonian.
The obverse of each $75 coin features a lovely portrait of Her Majesty the Queen, along with the words ELIZABETH II and D G REGINA. The coin measures 27 mm in diameter and has a metal weight of 12 grams.
