Obverse
In this tube, the 2023 Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coins display an obverse featuring Lady Liberty. Created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907, this iconic design showcases Liberty’s full-length figure with a torch and olive branch. Inscriptions read LIBERTY and 2023.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2023 American Eagle Gold Coins, you’ll find the depiction of an American bald eagle. Created by Jennie Norris in 2020, this new design made its debut in mid-2021 and captures the right-profile relief of the bald eagle’s head. Inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, 1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD, and 25 DOLLARS.
History
Like the other coins in this series, the American Eagle 1/2 oz Gold Coin saw its peaks in demand, as of 2023, come during the Y2K crisis. Outside of the 1986 debut coin, the next two highest mintages in the 1/2 oz gold weight came in 1999 and 1998, respectively.
