Obverse
For the obverse design of 2023 Canadian Maple Leaf Gold Coins, the Royal Canadian Mint features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this is the fourth and final portrait of Her Majesty to grace the coins in this series. Inscriptions on this side read ELIZABETH II, 10 DOLLARS, and 2023.
Reverse
In the reverse field of the 2023 Maple Leaf 1/4 oz Gold Coin, you will find the iconic sugar maple leaf. Designed for this series in 1979 by Walter Ott, this natural image of the maple leaf has been featured on all versions of the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion series since. Inscriptions on this side of the coin include CANADA, 9999, FINE GOLD, 1/4 OZ, and OR PUR.
History
The 2023 release of Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins is the last to feature an effigy of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. With the Queens passing in September 2022, only the initial run of 2023 Canadian Maple Leaf Coins will feature her effigy before the Royal Canadian Mint transitions to a new King Charles III portrait.
