Front/Obverse
The front of the Mount Rushmore silver coin prominently features the profile of George Washington. This classic portrait was designed by John Flanagan and is common to United States quarters.
Rear/Reverse
The reverse of the Mount Rushmore coin was designed by Joseph Menna and features a worker adding detail to Jefferson’s face, while another stands on scaffolding by Washington. The perspective of this design is unique, especially when compared to depictions showing the monument in its entirety. Inscriptions include MOUNT RUSHMORE, SOUTH DAKOTA, 2013, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
Brief History
The Lakota Sioux first called the mountain "The Six Grandfathers". In the 1870s, military campaigns granted the United States control over the area. An expedition past the peaks in 1885 was led by Charles Rushmore, and the mountain was renamed after him.
The idea for Mount Rushmore’s carving began in the early 1900s as part of a plan to increase tourism to the Black Hills of South Dakota. After it received approval from President Calvin Coolidge, the project commenced in 1927. The faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt were chosen to represent America's first 130 years of expansion and unity. To create the carvings, over 400,000 tons of rock had to be blasted and sculpted.
Work on the monument was completed 13 years later in 1941, but it was not listed in the National Register of Historic Places until 1966. Today, the Mount Rushmore National Monument sees well over two million visitors each year and has become one of the United States' national symbols.

Why Buy?
Coins from the America the Beautiful Silver Coin Series represent a significant investment in silver bullion. Each coin in this series consists of five troy ounces of US sourced .999 fine silver, and the weight and purity of each coin is guaranteed by the US government.
Because this series is manufactured by a sovereign mint that is backed by the United States government, the Mount Rushmore Silver Coin may be included in a self-directed Precious Metal IRA.
Each design in this silver coin series is minted for a limited time, which limits the mintage of each coin. Consequently, coins in the America the Beautiful are highly coveted by coin collectors.
