There are countless types of Obsolete Bank Notes still available in collectible circles today. Some of these notes predate the issuance of the first US-backed notes and come from various private or public entities. Provident Metals currently has certified Obsolete Bank Notes available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of these Obsolete Bank Notes online at Provident Metals, you will receive a paper note that is certified 20 by the PCGS. This equates to Very Fine condition and indicates a note with a decent body for the paper, fine fold lines, and moderate crumbling, but no major wear and tear in the focal points.
Designs
The obverse of the Obsolete Bank Note available in this listing comes with various bearer and issuer details. The note includes notations such as the place and date of issue, the signature of B.H. Ray, and the face value of the note. On the reverse, the Obsolete Bank Note is blank.
History
The Demand Note was the first government-backed paper not issued in the United States and was intended to help finance the Union Army at the outbreak of the Civil War. Prior to the Demand Note, and throughout the next several decades, other entities would issue banknotes in the United States. This included state banks, state governments, local governments, railroads, and even merchants.
