Austrian Philharmonic Silver Coins at Provident Metals

One of the most well-known coin programs in the world is the Austrian Philharmonic series. This series first debuted in 1989 and quickly became among the most popular in the world. After a while of just producing gold coins, the series added silver and platinum options. Right here, you can learn more about Austrian Philharmonic Silver Coins.

History of the Austrian Philharmonic

The Austrian Philharmonic Gold series debuted in 1989 from the Austrian Mint. The popularity of the series quickly became apparent as in the 1990s, the Philharmonic became one of the top-selling coin programs in all of Europe.

In 2008, the Austrian Philharmonic Silver Coin was introduced to the series. While the gold coin program has 5 unique weight options, and the platinum coin program (debuting in 2016) has 2, the Philharmonic Silver series has just 1.

The Austrian Philharmonic Silver Coin is released in a 1 oz weight with a purity of .999 pure silver. Each coin has a face value of 1.50 euros.

The design and name of the coin pay tribute to the Vienna Philharmonic. This orchestra was founded in 1842 and is widely regarded as one of the finest orchestras in the entire world. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra calls the Musikverein in Austria its home.

Design

The design for this series was created by Thomas Pesendorfer. The design was first used in 1989 on the first release of the Austrian Philharmonic Gold Coin and has been used on every year of release since.

  • Obverse: The pipe organ from the Golden Hall in the Musikverein appears on the obverse. The pipe organ is shown in front-facing relief as the face value, metal content, year of issue, and the country surround the design.
  • Reverse: A collection of musical instruments commonly played by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is displayed on the reverse. Front and center, a cello is featured and flanked on either side by two violins. Behind this array of instruments is a harp, bassoon, and French horn. The name of the orchestra can be seen at the top.

Unique Variations

  • Colorized: These silver coins have a colorized lacquer applied to the reverse. This gives each instrument a pop of color.
  • Gilded: These silver coins have a thin layer of 24-karat gold applied to the reverse. This gives 4 of the 8 instruments shown a gold look.

Each variation is available in a 1 Troy oz size and arrives in protective plastic flips.

Packaging Information

Individual Austrian Philharmonic Silver Coins will arrive in protective plastic flips. Two bulk options are available for larger orders, such as tubes of 25, or Monster Boxes of 500.
