Engelhard

Engelhard was established in Newark, New Jersey back in 1902 by Charles Engelhard. Engelhard became a top name in the precious metals industry, not only with their bullion bars but also creating the first catalytic converter. However, in 2006, Engelhard was sold to a German chemicals manufacturer for $5 billion. Even though Engelhard doesn’t exist anymore, they are still a popular name in the industry via the secondary market. Learn more about Engelhard and their products, right here at Provident Metals.

Secondary Market

When looking at gold and silver bars, you’ll see that plenty of them are listed as secondary market items. This essentially indicates that Provident Metals received these items from a party other than Engelhard. Since Engelhard was bought out in 2006, most of our assortment of Engelhard products are from the secondary market.

Engelhard Bars

At Provident Metals, we have a large assortment of gold and silver bullion bars. The design of the minted ingot is the same for both silver and gold. The Engelhard logo is shown at the top, followed by the metal content and purity, and the serial number is shown at the bottom. Minted ingots are available in sizes such as 1 oz and even 10 oz.

Cast bars vary more in terms of design as well as sizes available. Bars are available in sizes as large as 100 oz. Typically, cast bars will display the Engelhard name in the middle. A unique serial number will be seen at the bottom, while the purity and content are listed near the top.

Some bars will have a blank reverse. Others will have a blank reverse that has a unique stippled surface giving the bar some texture. Others will display a unique Engelhard logo on the obverse, known as the Bull Logo. Cast bars are available in both gold and silver.

Engelhard Rounds

You’ll also find an array of silver rounds created by Engelhard here at Provident Metals. Engelhard Prospector Rounds were made available from 1982 to 1988 and issued in sizes ranging from 1 oz to 1/10 oz.

The obverse of these rounds showcases a prospector panning for gold. The reverse of these rounds varies based on the year of issue. Some will show the Engelhard logo, surrounded by identifying marks of the round. Others will show an eagle clutching onto a branch with its wings spread out wide.
