  • Wide-format poured silver bar!
  • Produced by Engelhard Corporation!
  • Contains 10 Troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • The obverse field features the identifying hallmarks.
  • Assigned individual serial numbers.
  • No longer available as a brand-new product line!

When you purchase a 10 oz Silver Poured Bar in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a bar that was produced by Engelhard using its wide format. As a wide-format bar, the inscriptions on the finished product are stamped across the face of the bar in a horizontal alignment from left to right, rather than vertically from the top to bottom. Each bar comes with its own plastic sleeve.

Obverse

The obverse field of the 10 oz Silver Poured Bar comes with the only stamped markings on the bar. These markings are stamped incuse into the surface of the bar with a sunken finish. Included on this face of the bar are markings of 999+, 10.000, ENGELHARD, and an individual serial number. Engelhard used a simple six-number coding system for the serial numbers on these silver bars.

Reverse

On the reverse side of 10 oz Silver Poured Bars from Engelhard, the design field is blank. Most cast silver bars like this are left with a blank reverse. Although the reverse of the bar is blank, that doesnt mean there are no visual elements present. The poured process for production often results in lines, textures, and other striations forming as the silver settles and cools.

History

Engelhard Corporation was formed in 1902 in Newark, New Jersey, by Charles W. Engelhard. He started the company when he purchased the Charles F. Croselmire Company in 1902. He would form the American Platinum Works in 1903 and later acquire a platinum smelting and refining business. Engelhard is credited with the development of the catalytic converter for internal combustion engines, and by the 1970s was refining gold, silver, and platinum. In 2006, the company ceased operations following its sale to BASF of Germany.
