There are few American coin designs as enduringly popular as the Buffalo Nickel. Created in 1913, the obverse and reverse designs featured on the US nickel until 1938 and were so popular that the US Mint revived them in 2006 for use on the American Buffalo Gold Bullion coin. Provident Metals now has 1/4 oz Silver Buffalo Rounds from SilverTowne available to you for purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase one of these 1/4 oz Silver Buffalo Rounds from SilverTowne online at Provident Metals, you will receive rounds individually in flips. Multiples come in protective tubes of 30 rounds or cardboard boxes of 1,470 silver rounds. The boxes hold silver rounds in 49 separate tubes.
Obverse
The obverse design of the Silver Buffalo Rounds features a stoic Native American figure, depicted in right-profile relief. The image was created by Fraser, who drew inspiration from real-life tribal elders of the 20th century, combining their facial features to create this iconic design. The Native American figure is depicted with braided hair and feathers at the back of his head, adding to the round’s overall visual appeal.
Reverse
On the reverse side of the 1/4 oz Silver Buffalo Rounds, you will find a powerful image of a buffalo, with its head facing towards the left. Fraser expertly crafted the buffalo’s fur, resulting in exquisite detail that highlights the animal’s muscular neck and shoulders. This round is a beautiful tribute to both the Native American culture and the majestic buffalo, making it a unique addition to any collection.
History
James Earle Fraser was responsible for creating the iconic images that graced the US Nickel, also known as the Buffalo Nickel or Indian Head Nickel. The artwork was developed by Fraser and approved by President William Howard Taft’s administration in 1913, replacing the Liberty Nickel design from the 19th century.
