These $1 bills are crisp, clean, uncirculated bills from Federal Reserve-wrapped packs.

Obverse

For the obverse field of $1 Black Eagle Buffalo Indian Legal Tender Notes, you will find three historic paper note designs. At the center of the design, Running Antelope is featured. Depicted on the 1899 $5 Silver Certificate, Running Antelope was the first indigenous figure ever depicted on American money. He was the leader of the Hunkpapa Lakota. Not only was he a skilled warrior, he was also a gifted diplomat. To the left is a depiction of the American bison. This buffalo appeared on the wildly popular 1901 $10 Bison Note, an issue in the United States Note Series. On the right is the American bald eagle design known as Black Eagle. Also released on an 1899 Silver Certificate, Black Eagle featured on the $1 denomination.

Reverse

In the reverse design field of the $1 Black Eagle Buffalo Indian Legal Tender Note is the modern Federal Reserve Note design for the $1 denomination. The field includes a depiction of the all-seeing eye on the left and the Great Seal of the United States on the right.

History

The three designs found on the obverse of this note are from widely popular historic notes. Collectors still seek out the original versions of these designs from the 1901 $10 Bison Note, 1899 $5 Silver Certificate, and the 1899 $1 Silver Certificate. The reverse design found on the modern Federal Reserve Note $1 bill was approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who suggested swapping the original design with the Great Seal on the left and eye on the right to the current design of the eye on the left and Great Seal on the right.
