Obverse
On the obverse of each 1 oz Silver 2017 Proof South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang Medals, you will see the image of Chiwoo atop his horse as he holds a long spear in his right hand. In his left hand, Chiwoos massive shield protects him in battle. The only engraving found on this side of the coin is Chiwoos name.
Reverse
The reverse image shows the battle shield of Cheonwang. On the shield, the image of Do ggae bi, a frightening spirit, is used to strike fear into the enemies. The image of Do ggae bi is also hung around Koreans homes to ward off evil spirits.
History
The 1 oz Silver 2017 Proof South Korean Chiwoo Cheonwang Medals, and all of the other medals in the series, are minted at KOMSCO, which is a government-owned company and mint for the Republic of Korea. The mint opened in 1951, and it is responsible for making coinage, paper money, and government document production.
