Obverse
A Texas Bluebonnet is found on the obverse of Don’t Mess with Texas Bluebonnet Silver Rounds. This beautiful flower dominates the Texas landscape during the spring season. If youre driving along the highway, it is also quite common to see families posing for photos amidst these marvelous blue flowers. So popular is the Bluebonnet that some even travel from out of state to see them.
Reverse
The Dont Mess With Texas logo is found on the reverse of Bluebonnet 1 oz Silver Rounds. Here, a classic Longhorn skull occupies the center of the field. Stamped on the skulls forehead is an outline of the Lone Star State. The skull is also flanked by branches of oak and olive. Youll find inscriptions on the reverse as well that read DONT MESS WITH TEXAS, ONE TROY OUNCE .999 FINE SILVER.
History
The Texas Legislature declared the Bluebonnet as the official flower of the Lone Star State in 1901. Because there are numerous species of this flower, the state announced in 1971 that all Bluebonnets were included. Bluebonnets can be found in fields, parks, and cemeteries. Theyre also ubiquitous along Texas state highways thanks to efforts by Lady Bird Johnson.
