The Germania Mint introduced the Germania Series in 2019 with a powerful image of Germania based on some of the first-ever artistic renditions of the female personification. For 2020, a new design is available that showcases Germania interacting with another symbol of the Ancient Germanic tribes: the double-headed eagle. Right now, you can buy 1 oz Silver Proof 2020 Germania Rounds online from Provident Metals.
With your purchase of 1 oz Silver Proof 2020 Germania Rounds, you will receive your products with a protective display from the Germania Mint that includes a Certificate of Authenticity for the individual silver round. All of the proof silver rounds in the Germania Series come with frosted design elements overlaying mirrored background fields.
For the obverse design field of the 1 oz Silver Proof 2020 Germania Rounds, the mint issues a new image from Natalia Danysz. This depiction of Germania shows her figure in left-profile relief as her right arm is down at her side and her left hand is outstretched toward a double-headed eagle. Germanias cape blows in the wind, she wears a crown wreath on her head, and has a leather shield on her left forearm to protect her from the talons of the eagle as it lands. Inscriptions here read Germania 2020 and 1 oz 999.9 Fine Silver.
In the reverse design element, the 1 oz Silver Proof 2020 Germania Rounds depict the official seal of the Germania Mint. The mint seal includes the double-headed eagle associated with Janus, the guardian of doorways and god of origins in Germanic mythology. Also associated with Roman Legions, the double-headed eagle here clutches arrows in its talons and fern leaves around it. Inscriptions include 5 Mark above the seal and Germania below.
Germania was a term used to define both the region of north-central Europe and the tribes living in that region during the era of the Roman Empire. Around the 1st century BC, Romans wrote about these savage, vicious tribes while encountering them in battle. Germania was revived in 1848 as a female personification of the German people and became a symbol of the German Empire by 1871.
