The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of the most sought-after coins from American history. Although the design never struck well on circulation silver dollars in the 19th and 20th centuries, its imagery remains a popular item with collectors in the 21st century. It is also one of the few American coins so closely associated with its designer that it bears that individuals name. Right now, you can buy the new 1 oz Silver Proof Domed American Legacy Morgan Dollar Round online from Provident Metals.
Highlights:
All silver rounds in the American Legacy Collection are produced by the Osborne Mint with domed obverse fields. These high, domed surfaces produced a strike with enhanced visual brilliance. The 3D element delivers 10 times the depth of other replica products and allows the intricacy of each detail to shine through in the finish.
Obverse
For the obverse of 1 oz Silver Proof Domed American Legacy Morgan Dollar Rounds, the Osborne Mint features the left-profile portrait of Lady Liberty created in 1878 by George T. Morgan. Her hair flows down the back of her head with some of it clustered in a bun. You can see and feel every detail of the wreath and its wheat sheaves and cotton bolls. A commemorative date mark of 1893 features on this side.
Reverse
In the reverse design field, the 1 oz Silver Proof Domed American Legacy Morgan Dollar Round showcases the same Liberty portrait captured in right-profile relief this time. Inscriptions featured on this side read 1 oz .999 Fine Silver and OM, the latter being the mint mark for the Osborne Mint.
History
The Morgan Silver Dollar was introduced by the US Mint in 1878. It was regularly struck from 1878 to 1904 and suspended amidst diminished interest in silver dollars. The program returned in 1921 with the Morgan design used through December of that year. It was then replaced by the new Peace Silver Dollar image.
