Each crew member is shown in left-profile relief, and you can clearly see a footprint on the surface of the moon in the lower left of the round.

Reverse

The reverse side of every round in this series bears the image of a bald eagle as it comes in for landing on the moon. With outstretched wings, the eagle clutches an olive branch between its talons to symbolize the peaceful moon landing. In the background, you can see Earth in the distance.

History

The eight-day mission to the moon in July 1969 marked a significant success in the U.S. NASA space program, which was kicked into high gear after the Soviets sent a manned ship into space a few years before.

While Armstrong and Aldrin walked on the moon, Collins stayed behind in the command module as it orbited around the moon. The names of all three men are also engraved into this side of the round.
