History

The first Velociraptor fossil remains were found by Peter Kaisen in 1923 in an area of Mongolia known as the Flaming Cliffs. Currently, two species of Velociraptor are known: V. mongoliensis and V. osmolskae, the latter of which was only identified in 2008. To date, the most exciting Velociraptor fossil features it in the midst of a fight with a Protoceratops. It is believed that a landslide struck the two of them mid-combat. Based on the remains, both creatures had a chance to emerge victorious before nature had its way with them.
