A female portrait of Liberty is displayed on the obverse. She is depicted with flowing hair and a crown. The inscription “LIBERTY” is engraved towards the top, while the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” and the date appear on the lower half of the coin.

Reverse

The reverse shows an eagle perched on a ledge against a backdrop of sun rays. The bird is clutching an olive branch and the word “PEACE” appears below. These two design features are what give the Peace Dollar its name. The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” also appear on the reverse, along with the denomination of “ONE DOLLAR.”

About the Peace Silver Dollar

The Peace Silver Dollar is one of America’s most famous and iconic coins. They have a fascinating historical background, as they were issued to commemorate the end of World War I. Numismatists are drawn to the coin for its gorgeous design, fascinating backstory, and affordable price point. The Peace Dollar is also popular among investors for its impressive silver content, as each coin contains 0.7734 ounces of pure silver.

The Peace Dollar largely owes its existence to the Pittman Act of 1918. This piece of legislation required the federal government to strike millions of Silver Dollars, which had not been made since 1904. Initially the U.S. Mint produced 1921 Silver Dollars using the tried-and-true Morgan design, but eventually decided to create an all-new motif. With World War I still fresh on many Americans’ minds, the mint settled on a theme of peace for the new Silver Dollar.

These 10-coin sets are an outstanding way to own Peace Dollars. They provide collectors and investors with an excellent variety of dates and a low cost per coin. Each set contains 10 coins, each with a different date and mintmark combination, including coins struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints. Some of these dates are scarcer and often command a high collector premium.
