Obverse

The obverse side of $10 Face Value 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars includes a depiction of Lady Liberty in left-profile relief. This design was created in 1916 by Adolph A. Weinman and shows Liberty walking toward the sun on the horizon as it crests a mountain. Liberty reaches out for the warmth and brightness of a new day with her right hand as her left hand carries branches of oak and laurel. The American flag is flowing over her shoulders. Inscriptions include Liberty, In God We Trust, and 1935.

Reverse

On the reverse face of the 90% Silver Walking Liberty Half Dollars is another design from Weinman. This image of the American bald eagle shows a powerful aerial predator ready to lift off into flight while resting on its perch on a young sapling on the edge of a mountain cliff. The inscriptions found on this face of the coin read United States of America, E Pluribus Unum, and Half Dollar.

History

The design from Weinman was used on the half dollar until 1947. After being replaced by the Franklin Half Dollar, the Walking Liberty design did not appear again on American coins until 1986 when the American Eagle Silver bullion series debuted. Other private mints issue the Walking Liberty design on silver rounds and silver bars.
