The Pony Express Bars from SilverTowne capture the rugged spirit and individualism of the riders of the Pony Express. From the rugged nature of the bar itself as a cast silver specimen to the design of the Pony Express rider, these cast silver bars are perfect for the history buff who also invests in silver. Provident Metals currently offers the 10 oz Silver Pony Bar to you for purchase online.
When you purchase a 10 oz Silver Pony Bar from SilverTowne in this Provident Metals listing, you receive a bar that is in brand-new condition from the mint. The bars are shipped out inside of standard shipping boxes with a clear plastic sleeve around the bar. The 10 oz Silver Pony Bar joins the 100 oz and 1 Kilo silver bars already available in this series. All three feature the same Pony Express rider design with a horizontal layout of the inscriptions.
For the obverse field of 10 oz Silver Pony Bars, the mint features a rider of the Pony Express on the left and the identifying hallmarks on the right. The hallmarks read 10 OZ, FINE SILVER, and 999. The Pony Express rider is racing across the vast American West between horse stations along the route in the design on the left side of the bar. Below the rider, you will see the pick-ax mint mark of SilverTowne.
In the reverse design of 10 oz Silver Pony Bars, SilverTowne has purposely left the field blank. The reverse of cast silver bars is often left blank, but that doesnt mean there are no visual elements on this side. It is common to find natural striations, textures, and lines on the reverse of cast silver bars. These natural elements form as the silver cools and settles in the cast mold during the production process.
The Pony Express was conceived in early 1860 as a means of connecting mail and communications service between Missouri, then the westernmost telegraph station in the US, and California. The Pony Express started in April 1860 with 180 stations spaced 10 miles apart along the route. The average Pony Express rider was paid handsomely for the work. Riders earned an average of $125 per month at a time when unskilled laborers made no more than $1 per day and skilled laborers made $2 per day, at best.
