It shows Liberty in left-profile relief with a coronet crown that has LIBERTY engraved on it. Other inscriptions include 13 stars around the portrait and the date of 1857.

This image captures the American bald eagle in front-facing relief with the US national shield and a ring of 13 stars overhead. History
The Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin was introduced in 1849 and would go on to feature on the coins until 1907. The design of the Liberty Double Eagle came from James B. Longacre, who served as the 4th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
