The Morgan Dollar Silver Coin from the United States Mint debuted in 1878 and marked the reintroduction of silver dollars into circulation in the United States. The coins were previously suspended in 1873, bringing an end to the free coining of silver in the country in the process. Provident Metals now has 1878-1904 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins with certifications available to purchase online.
Highlights:
When you purchase the 1878-1904 Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in this product listing, you receive a coin that has a Mint State 62 certification from the PCGS or NGC. Coins in this condition showcase a somewhat impaired mint luster with various other flaws. These flaws include contact marks in the prime focal areas and outside of the prime visual fields. You may also notice scattered or noticeable patches and hairlines. Overall, the eye appeal of these coins is acceptable.
Please note that the coins in this listing come from the original 1878-1904 production range for the Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. We do not guarantee the date mark of the coin you receive or whether it was graded by the PCGS or NGC. If you purchase more than one, please note the date marks can match.
Obverse
Lady Liberty is depicted on the obverse of the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in a left-profile bust. George T. Morgan developed this design in 1878 for the United States Mint for the reintroduction of the silver dollar in the US. It shows Liberty with a coronet and wreath crown with her hair held up in a loose cap at the back. Inscriptions on this face of the coin include E Pluribus Unum and a date mark, as well as 13 stars around the design.
Reverse
The US heraldic eagle is featured on the reverse side of Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. In this design, also created by Morgan, the American bald eagle is featured in front-facing relief with the olive branch of peace in one talon and the arrows of war in the other.
History
Morgan Dollar Silver Coins were produced by the United States Mint from 1878 to 1904. After being suspended for nearly 20 years, silver dollars went back into production in 1921 with the Morgan Dollar design revived for most of the year. By December 1921, a new design was issued to replace the Morgan imagery.
