One of the earliest Morgan Dollar Silver Coins issued by the United States Mint was the 1880 Morgan Dollar from the Carson City Mint. Each year that Carson City struck Morgan Dollars, it had the lowest mintages among the branch mints producing the coins. The1880 was one of the more notable releases for its stark contrast in mintages compared to the other active mints in that same year. Today, you have the chance to get certified 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online from Provident Metals.

The Morgan Dollar Silver Coin was first issued by the United States Mint in 1878. In that very first year, the Philadelphia Mint, San Francisco Mint, and Carson City Mint all issued the coins. However, the Carson City Mint issued the lowest mintages of the coins each year, and only struck the coins from 1878 to 1885 and again from 1889 to 1893.

Obverse

On the obverse side of 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins is a portrait of Liberty. This effigy of Liberty was created in 1878 by George T. Morgan and shows Liberty in left-profile relief wearing a Phrygian cap on her head. Also found on her head are the laurel wreath and a coronet crown. Inscriptions on this field include E PLURIBUS UNUM and 1880.

Reverse

The reverse field of the 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin features an effigy of the American bald eagle. This design of the bald eagle is set in front-facing relief with the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace, with a wreath framing the eagle. The inscriptions on this side of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint.

History

The release of the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin at the Carson City Mint in 1880 included a total mintage of 591,000 coins. While many of those coins were released into circulation, some 131,529 coins were discovered in Treasury vaults in the 1960s. As with all other Morgan Dollars, these coins have 90% silver and 10% copper content.
