The Morgan Dollar Silver coins were first released in 1878 by the United States Mint. Over the course of 28 issue dates, the Carson City Mint issued some of the lowest mintage figures in the history of the series. Right now, you can buy 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins in certified condition online at Provident Metals.
Highlights:
With your purchase of the 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in this Provident Metals listing, you will receive a coin in a plastic slab that was graded Mint State 64 by the PCGS. Coins in this condition have average mint luster with the possibility of small clusters of contact marks, minor contact marks in the prime focal areas, and even scattered hairlines or one large patch. On the whole, the coins have average visual appeal.
Obverse
Liberty features on the obverse of 1880-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins. This design comes from George T. Morgan and shows Liberty in left-profile relief. She wears a Phrygian cap on her head with the coronet crown and laurel wreath in her hair. Along with 13 stars on the design edge, you will find inscriptions of E PLURIBUS UNUM and 1880. The word LIBERTY is inscribed on her coronet crown.
Reverse
For the reverse of 1880-CC Morgan Dollars, you will find the heraldic eagle of the United States. The American bald eagle is shown here in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The eagle is framed by a wreath of oak and laurel, with a bow connecting the two sides at the bottom. Beneath this bow, you will find the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint. Inscriptions on this face of the coin read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, and ONE DOLLAR. The CC mint mark is located beneath the bow of the wreath, just above the DO in dollar.
History
The release of the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin in 1880 included a rather minuscule mintage from the Carson City Mint. Just 591,000 coins were issued at the mint in Nevada. Roughly one-fifth of those coins never reached broader circulation. Some 131,529 coins from this release were discovered by the GSA in Treasury vaults in the 1960s.
