In 1878, the United States Mint introduced the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin. The successor to the Seated Liberty Dollar, the Morgan Dollar would go on to feature a total of 28 date marks from 1878 to 1904 and in 1921. This made the Morgan Dollar the second-longest-running US silver dollar design in history behind only its predecessor, the aforementioned Seated Liberty Dollar. Today, you have the chance to get 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins online in certified condition from Provident Metals.

  • Arrives with a protective plastic slab courtesy of the NGC!
  • 6th coin in the Morgan Dollar Silver Series!
  • Total mintage of 1,204,000 coins!
  • Limited number of certified silver dollar coins available!
  • Contains .7734 Troy oz of actual silver content.
  • The face value of $1 (USD) is backed by the United States of America.
  • Graded Mint State 64 by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
  • On the obverse is a portrait of Liberty.
  • The reverse features the heraldic eagle.
  • Bears a CC mint mark from the Carson City Mint.

Only two mints in the US Mint system struck the Morgan Dollar Silver Coin for all 28 date marks; the Philadelphia Mint and the San Francisco Mint. The New Orleans Mint issued 26 of the 28 date marks, missing the 1878 debut as it was still closed following the Civil War and the 1921 date mark as it had permanently closed in 1909. The Denver Mint issued only the 1921 date mark, but with more than 20 million coins struck that year, it far surpassed in one year what the Carson City Mint issued in 13 years of production.

Obverse

On the obverse of 1883-CC Morgan Dollars is a portrait of Lady Liberty. This bust of Liberty is a left-profile relief with a Phrygian cap on her head, a coronet crown, and a laurel wreath crown. There are 13 stars accompanying Liberty on this side, as well as inscriptions of LIBERTY on the laurel crown, E PLURIBUS UNUM overhead, and 1883 below.

Reverse

The reverse field of 1883-CC Morgan Dollar Silver Coins comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle. This front-facing bald eagle has its wings spread as it clutches the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons. The inscriptions outside the laurel wreath design include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST, ONE DOLLAR, and the CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint.

History

The Carson City Mint issued Morgan Dollars from 1878 to 1885, paused production from 1886 to 1888, and resumed coining in 1889. The final wave of Morgan Dollars from Carson City came between 1889 and 1893 when the mint closed.

Ordering

These 1883-CC Morgan Dollars are Mint State 64 specimens. Coins in this condition have an average mint luster with clusters of small contact marks, one or two heavier marks, and the possibility of one or two small patches of hairlines.
